Garden cress seeds are tiny reddish-brown seeds that come from the plant *Lepidium sativum*. They are commonly known as Halim or Aliv seeds in India and are used in both food and traditional remedies. When soaked in water, they swell and form a gel-like coating, similar to chia seeds. These seeds are very rich in iron, calcium, fiber, protein, and antioxidants. Because of this, they are often used to help improve iron levels, support digestion, and promote overall strength. In many Indian households, they are mixed with milk, jaggery, or used in sweets like laddoos, especially for postpartum nutrition. They should usually be soaked before eating to make them easier to digest.
